Director 

Andy Hayes -  Head Coach Episcopal Academy, President of EPSLA, Owner of TRASHCAN LACROSSE

He just finished his fifth year as Head Coach in the tough Inter-Ac Conference leading his team to its most wins in 11 years. This included to thrilling OT upsets of rivals Haverford and Malvern during the regular season. He just completed his fifth year and led the Churchmen to their 3rd consecutive 10 win season. His team finished 13-8 in PA and finished third in the Inter-Ac. Hayes began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Penn Charter. He coached there for two years before heading over to rival Episcopal where he served as the Offensive Coordinator and JV Head Coach before being named Head Varsity Coach in 2004. Episcopal Academy competes in one of the toughest conferences in the country, the Inter-Ac. In addition to his coaching duties at Episcopal, Hayes helps direct the Ashbee Lacrosse Club’s spring tryouts and conducts clinics in the Conestoga Youth program. He has also presented at the Philadelphia School District Lacrosse Clinic for 3 years.  He has most recently been elected as President of the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association and is currently helping reshape the organization’s purpose and mission.A standout lacrosse and soccer player at Trinity College, he was selected for All-NESCAC honors in both sports.  In addition to his athletic career, Hayes graduated from Trinity with a B.S. in Biology and currently teaches freshmen and sophomore Biology at Episcopal.

In addition, Hayes co-organized and directed the highly successful EPSLA SHOWCASE this past June where over 50 college coaches were in attendance. The event was touted as one of the best events of the summer! 


Team Coaches

Mark Duncan - Athletic Director, Head Coach at The Shipley School. 

He has been at The Shipley School as their Head Coach for 9 years and has served as Athletic Director for the past two years. The Shipley School won  Friends Schools League Championships in 2006 and most recently, in 2009.  He was named Coach of the Year in both the Main Line Times and Main Line Life newspapers in 2005 and in the Northeast League.  Mark was also the Head Coach of Team Montgomery County at the Keystone Games in 2005.   Before his tenure at The Shipley School, Mark was the Head Offensive Assistant at Division III powerhouse Whittier College. While the offensive coordinator, Whittier finished 19-1 and was ranked in the Top 20 all season, winning a WCLL Championship.


Eric GreggHead Coach St. Joe's Prep. 

In his first year, the team earned its first #1 state ranking on 4/25/09 and finished ranked #3 in PA with a record of 16-2, the highest finish in program history. Ten members of the class of 2009 moved on to play lacrosse in college.  Gregg and his program were awarded the George A. Kruse Award for sportsmanship given by the Greater Philadelphia Lacrosse Officials Association.He began coaching goalies in 2003 at Lower Merion HS in Ardmore, Pa.  He then moved on to coach defense and goalies at Penn Charter HS in Philadelphia from 2004-2008 and helped guide the Quakers to the PA State Playoffs each year and the 2008 PA State Playoff Final Four. Gregg also founded the non-profit organization Lacrosse, Education, Attitude, Perseverance, and Success (L.E.A.P.S.) whose mission is to enrich the lives of youth through lacrosse and education, as well as instill the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. All of which will, in turn, help them develop a positive worldview. L.E.A.P.S. aims to show that with hard work on and off the field, anyone can be successful. 


Randy McNeil - Head Coach Abington High School.

McNeil has led the Ghosts to Sub One Championships in 07, 08, and 09. His team was undefeated in league play during all three of those seasons. In addition to his conference success, McNeil guided the Ghosts to EPSLA playoff appearances in both 07, and 08 before bowing out in the 2nd round both years. Last year, in the inaugural PIAA state playoff, Abington was the last team eliminated in District One. Lastly, McNeil has named Head Coach of the Public Sophomore team during the EPSLA SHOWCASE in June.


Brian Samson - Head Coach, Conestoga High School

Brian Samson is only the fourth Varsity lacrosse coach returned for his ninth season at the helm as the Pioneer’s Head Coach.  Coach Samson has led the Pioneers to their most successful consecutive seasons in over ten years. Brian is a guidance counselor at the High School, which makes it easy to keep tabs on his players. Coach is a local guy who was himself a stand out defensive player at near by Radnor High School. Brian played his college career at nationally ranked Georgetown University where he had the opportunity to be a major contributor and stand out on defense. He has great experience having played in national championship games. Coach Samson in his first four years has taken Conestoga to the State Play off  quarter finals three times. He has coached and developed, one All American, several All ­State, many All Central League, and all Main line players. Coach has helped with the recruiting of many of his player to some of the best lacrosse schools in the nation. He has re-established Conestoga as a school that can not be over looked when recruiting talented and knowledgeable lacrosse players. Many of his players are now on the rosters of several top tier lacrosse schools in the country.


Dan Keating - Head Coach, Malvern Prep

Keating, a Philadelphia resident, served as the head lacrosse coach at St. Joseph's Prep from 2006-2008, and coached the lacrosse team at the Taft School in Watertown, Conn., from 2004-2005. He founded Keating Lacrosse Clinics, designed to promote the sport in grades six through nine, in 2007. Keating was a high school All-American midfielder in lacrosse at Episcopal Academy and also was captain of the soccer team. He played lacrosse at Duke University, where he earned a bachelor of arts in history. He is currently completing his master of science in secondary education at St. Joseph's University.


Marty Kupprion - Assistant Coach Lower Merion

A former Duke’s player, Marty learned to play lacrosse through the Ridley and Rose Tree youth programs, then the Haven club program during middle school. He played varsity lacrosse at the Episcopal Academy, where he earned All Main Line and All Inter-Ac Honors and set the EA single season record for assists. He continued his lacrosse career at the University of Delaware, playing as a man-up specialist for three years and starting as a crease attackman for two. He was a key member of two Colonial Athletic Association championship teams and also appeared twice in the NCAA tournament in 2005 and 2007. After graduating in 2007, he continued his education at Cabrini, finishing a master’s degree (spring 2009) and getting certified to teach . Still an active player in men’s spring and summer leagues, he has been on the Lower Merion HS coaching staff since the spring of 2008. He is excited to now be a part of the Duke’s staff and to implement the sophomore mentoring program.  Also was the head coach of Team Philadelphia in the '09 Adidas National Lacrosse Classic and a volunteer coach with the L.E.A.P.S.  program.

Mike Friel  - Head Coach, Springfield High School (Delco)

Friel enters his eighth year as the Head Coach of the Springfield Cougars.  Springfield is coming off a Final Four appearance in 2009, the second appearance under Friel.  Friel has coached six All-Americans while at Springfield and three Central League MVP’s.  At the end of last season, Friel was an assistant on the Public School Junior class in the Inaugural Philly Showcase.  Before coming to Springfield, Friel was the Offensive Coordinator at Cabrini College, where the Cavaliers advanced to the DIII National Tournament. 

 

Chet Laubach - Head Coach Lower Merion High School

In his 6th year at Lower Merion,  Chet has had his team ranked in the top 10 for the last three seasons.  In 2008, he was named EPSLA and Central League Coach of the Year. He has coached 4 All-Americans and had his Aces qualify for the first ever PIAA State Lacrosse Tournament. In addition to his coaching duties, he is currently Secretary of the EPSLA and is a history teacher at Lower Merion High School.

 

David Waldman - Head Coach Strath Haven High School

Coach Waldman is in his 9th season at Strath Haven and  has won over 95 games during his tenure while making the playoffs 7 times.  He has coached 6 All-Americans while helping 11 of his players reach the Division 1 level. Before his coaching career at Strath Haven, he was the head Coach at Friend’s Central for 2 years as well as an Assistant Coach with St. Joseph’s University.

 

Todd Fairlie - Assistant Coach, Episcopal Academy

Before joining the Episcopal Academy staff this year, Todd has been coaching in the college ranks. After being named a 2x All-American at Widener University, he joined the Widener Staff in 2007. While coaching at Widener and University of Santa Clara, Todd played two seasons in the MLL with the San Francisco Dragons and San Jose Stealth.  He is now in the History department at Episcopal Academy and is an Assistant Coach with the Episcopal Varsity football team.


Josh Hanlon - Head Coach Neshaminy

Josh is entering his 5th year as the head coach at Neshaminy High School.  In 2007 he was named the SOL National Coach of the year. An '04 graduate of McDaniel College (formally Western Maryland) Josh was a 4 year starter and was a two-time NCAA All-American.  Josh also was a three-time  1st Team All-Centennial Conference selection and was a three-time ECAC Southern Region 1st Team All-Star.  Josh also helps with the Lower Bucks Youth Lacrosse program.  He is part of the Lower Bucks Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
